1st/2nd DLI Spanish Core Teacher

Sarah Visse

Ms. Sarah Visse earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish Language and Applied Economics from the University of Oregon. Her journey toward Spanish fluency began as a high school exchange student and continued through summers in Spain, a full academic year teaching in Madrid, and eventually a move to Southern California. She holds a Master of Education and Bilingual Authorization from the University of San Diego and most recently taught 5th grade at a dual immersion charter school in El Cajon.

With a deep love for language learning and early education, Ms. Visse is especially excited to return to working with younger students. She is passionate about developing JCS Cedar Cove’s bilingual program and creating a joyful, supportive classroom environment where students thrive academically and socially. She believes that learning another language is a life-changing gift—and she’s eager to help her students discover that joy.

Outside the classroom, you can find her at the beach, in the garden, or out rollerblading. She enjoys reading, yoga, golf, scuba diving, and traveling with her husband, Jim. Together, they like to spend as much time outdoors as possible, especially with their chocolate lab named Barbara. Some of her favorite authors are Michael Pollan and Barbara Kingsolver. Two quotes that guide her teaching come from William Ayers, who reminds us that “education can change the direction of history and society,” and that “every human being is of infinite and incalculable value.”
